Foot tattoos are becoming increasing popular amongst both males and females. To many people the foot is considered one of the least prettiest parts of our bodies, getting a tattoo on your foot may be seen as a good opportunity to make your feet look nicer, but surely this isn’t why everyone is rushing off to get their feet tattooed?
Often (whether we like to admit it or not) popular areas to get tattooed can be determined by celebrities getting tattoos in the same spot. Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Anniston and Rihanna, to name a few, all sport ink on their feet and definitely help influence the younger generation to do the same. However the main reason that foot tattoos remain popular is because they can easily be hidden out of sight with a pair of shoes, which depending on the job you have, can often be an added benefit.
So without further ado let’s take a look at 30 of our favourite foot and flip flop tattoos…
Clearly not afraid to go under the tattoo gun, this girl flaunts her skull foot designs that look absolutely stunning.
His and hers. Nautical tattoos have long been popular for sailors and boating enthusiasts to get tattooed, particularly on their feet.
“Meme” and “Pepe” – two beautiful designs to represent two beautiful people in our lives.
“Illuminate” and a peacock feather. Both compliment each other nicely.
One of the things to keep in mind with foot tattoos is caring for them. Foot tattoos (if not looked after properly) will fade quicker than tattoos in other areas due to it been an area where you shed more skin and often under more sunlight.
Don’t let this completely deter you though. The skin on the foot is deep and with proper moisturization the ink should not fade.
Two best friends getting matching foot tattoos.
Getting tattoos on the bottom of your foot is meant to be the most painful area to get tattooed on the body due to the amount of nerve sensors there. If you an with stand the pain though, than you can get incredible results like this beautiful mandala design.
“Free Spirit” with parts of the feather breaking off in to a flock of birds, very cool idea for a unique and interesting tattoo.
Some cool vintage designs on a ladies feet. These remind us of the Sailor Jerry style tattoos that are very popular at the moment.
A gorgeous looking owl tattoo that has been shaded with the use of dots.
One of the most popular foot tattoos for females is that of the bird. Since a lot of people want their own unique design these days rather than something “cliche” or “overdone” people are coming up with amazingly beautiful designs such as the bird above.
Another example of a gorgeous bird tattoo on someones foot.
Besides birds, flowers and floral designs are very popular on feet particularly ones with vines and intertwining flowers.
We particularly like leg sleeves like the above picture when the person has picked a common style and gets all the tattoos in the same style so they are matching.
Before you jump to conclusions and think they have a swastika tattooed on them, it’s actually a Buddhist symbol and does really look beautiful in this mandala foot tattoo.
A really cool looking dragon done in all black on someones foot.
“Heaven is a place on Earth with you” – what a beautiful quote and we particularly like this style of cursive script writing that is very simple yet elegant.
Another great example of some floral foot designs, this time with a bit of color added in to really make the tattoo pop!
A couple of gorgeous roses on the feet. The great thing about getting outlines of roses done like this is should you ever get sick and tired of them you can always color them in later in bright red and have a completely new design to look at!
A great example of how pinks and blacks can look so good together on this beautiful lotus tattoo design.
Dressing up for a formal occasion? Why not top off your foot tattoo with some nice jewels like the example above.
This ladies and gentlemen is as good as it gets when it comes to tattoo shading. You can tell it’s the work of a very talented tattooist when it looks this ultra realistic.
A gorgeous and unique take on the peacock design, this time incorporating swirls and shapes that would usually be used in a mandala piece.
A beautiful photograph of a girls feet with some bold tattoo designs.
“Love” – super simple but looks great. We like how it almost looks like they have used the infinity symbol as well in what is a really unique type face.
Another example of a tattoo on the bottom of the foot, this time with geometric patterns complimenting the shape of the foot. Whilst probably the easiest tattoo to hide, remember this is probably the place where your tattoo will fade the most due to walking on it all the time.
Batman vs. Superman tattoo design – very cool!
A beautiful looking feather fern that incorporates a lot of different patterns such as leopard print and even what looks like a beehive inside it. Sometimes really intricate tattoos like this can be a great idea to get on your foot and be able to show off to everyone really easily.
A simple yet cool anchor tattooed just below the ankle. If you’re just wanting something small tattooed it can cost just as much as something bigger if the tattooist charges on an hourly rate. However if you’re extra nice to them they might let you get a few little ones for the same price!
Continuing on with the bat theme, heres someone that has filled in bats on their left foot and non filled in ones on their right. We imagine this is the same kind of person that liked to wear opposite laces on their shoes as a kid. Either way its a very cool tattoo design.
Anklet style tattoo band featuring a feather. Bands are not quite as popular as they used to be but they are definitely still a great looking tattoo design.
A really cool looking bird design. We particularly like the use of pinks and greens in this one and then to top it off the person has matched their toenail polish with the green on the birds wings.
An abstract style ankle design. This one has elements of native American art work which is very popular to get tattooed.
A simple yet poignant love heart. Some times simple works best!
“One step at a time..” A clever and witty tattoo design, particularly to get on your foot.
Foreign language tattoos remain popular to get, particularly so if you have heritage from that country or have travelled their recently.
Another example of some friends getting foot tattoos at the same time. Often it can be daunting getting your first tattoo which is why often two people will go in and get ones together.
A really cool chandelier tattoo design. It almost looks like lace and will work very well with the right dress and shoes.
This is the kind of tattoo that nightmares are made of. Is it an X-ray or a tattoo? Yes believe it or not it’s a tattoo of someones feet bones on top of their skin.
This is a great way to incorporate both your feet in to the one tattoo design by getting a cage on one foot and the birds flying out across to your other foot. Very clever and symbolic at the same time.
Another scary looking tattoo that looks like the kind of thing you would expect to see on The Walking Dead. Whilst it may not be for everyone, there is no denying that the art work is very well done with how realistic and scary it looks at the same time.
A simple moon design that has been well placed to work with the curve of the foot. Astrology and astronomy symbols are both becoming increasingly popular designs to get done and so is the whole minimalist style where the tattoo is very simple with minimal line work and often containing geometric patterns or shapes.
“I need you like you would not believe” – Psalms 3:5. Religious phrases have always, and will always continue to be popular tattoos to get. Again this is another example of how some simple script style writing in black can really look great. We particularly like how the “s” is more of a love heart shape at the end.
We saved our favourite one for last. A bird design on each foot, each in a similar style to match but still slightly different. The one on the left foot is holding flowers in its mouth where as the one on the right foot is holding cherries in its mouth. Like we said earlier birds continue to be the most popular style of tattoo to get on your foot and this is a great example of why.
I’m addicted to tattoos, lol. Gonna get my third soon!
